Fishtown Art Collective

The mailing List / A better Name / Newsletters / Refining / How it should Work / Ref: Polytron

How I imagine this the Fishtown Art collective will work, is that I’ll purchase the big list, I’m thinking realistically somewhere between 25 and 100 thousand emails. The list will get filtered through something like sendsy, so I can send out mass emails with personalized names, and the format of the emails will be as a newsletter. Announcing the Art Collective first with an animated giff. Then subsequent newsletters, announcing weekly articles, videos, photoshoots, new artwork, progress towards the magazine, and the launch party.

The Mailing list, seems like it’s going to be the hardest part. It’s similar to getting the prints done, where I’ll have to save up two paychecks. About a thousand dollars. To buy the largest set of names I can. But after that’s done, I’ll have a decent sized target market.

I worry about being so confident in that. I’ve tried things at that magnitude before, the doorhangers for example, or the postcards before them, and those things were the major crossovers that I was trying to find. But, that strategy has been suggested to me by many many people. Joe Biel suggest it in his book. The people’s guide to publishing. Mis Liz, suggest it at the Anarchist bookstore. I remember her talking about it in terms of getting a screening together. Mia from powerHouse books talked about it, especially in reference to the events in Dumbo. Jon Bekken talked about the email list for Clarke Park.

Put street team on membership page.

Need a name: QueenMother / Something futuristic, Artistic, Rebellious. Yonderboy is the only name that I can think of that has all of those things. If I play or watch cyberpunk, the game I might get another sense. Or read some other books in the sprawl trilogy.
